Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

About the Book- Yours Truly

A novel of terrible first impressions, hilarious second chances, and the joy in finding your perfect match.

Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter.

And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan. Worse, he might be this fantastically funny and subversively likeable guy who’s terrible at first impressions. Because suddenly he and Bri are exchanging letters, sharing lunch dates in her “sob closet,” and discussing the merits of freakishly tiny horses. But when Jacob decides to give Briana the best gift imaginable—a kidney for her brother—she wonders just how she can resist this quietly sexy new doctor . . . especially when he calls in a favor she can’t refuse.

“I always think that when we’re quiet, we’re agreeing to be harmless to each other. That we’re just sharing the same space and letting each other exist exactly as we are, and neither of us would hurt or upset the other one.”

Our Review of Yours Truly

Phew! What do I say about this book? This book did tap on so many levels with me as a reader. One of the things that i would absolutely want to boast about this book was its introduction and treatment of its core theme. It was like a shocker to me as to how the book sort of forced my eyes open to see what social anxiety means and can affect one. I was actually kind of taken away by the fact that the book did it without preaching. Of course, it may affect each reader differently. For me though I actually loved the fact that it kind of drew my attention to the whole mental process and the way one deals with anxiety.

That was one aspect that I absolutely loved and the second aspect was the romance of course. Ok, I will admit that I am not head over heels for the romance section but it was still a good one and charming too. The reason why I had a bit of trouble was that there was a kind of dip in the pace of the romance track and the whole “trouble in paradise” element seemed a bit forced and kind of hard to chew. But yes at the same time, I think one of the most cutest and adorable romantic banters was in this book. I truly hope that I am not throwing spoilers, but there is an instant when the characters are pen-romancing (yeah I coined the word 😛 ) and I was a total goner at that point. It was the sweetest, cutest, charming and adorable thing and I hated it when the author decided to stop that because that would have made this book heavenly for me.

The book is a slow romance so you can’t expect the characters to tear each other’s clothes by the second chapter (Thank God for that). This means you have to enjoy the whole process of these characters interacting and dealing with their own personal stuff. Trust me, it is a beautiful journey. This book to me personally is not romance but rather two individuals dealing with their own personal griefs, struggles and life altogether and somehow along the road, finding a partner too. Isn’t that sweet?

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would say that this is a charming little romance but a bit more serious and a life lesson involved unlike the usual rom coms. I will not put this as a rom-com. It is more of a slice-of-life book that could teach you quite a few things or at least maybe make you take a second look at your own life.
