Our Review of On Dublin Street

I had heard and seen this book a lot and I guess the timing was meant for now. Sadly I kept failing to see the allure of this book that had captured the hearts of a lot of people. From the get-go, I couldn’t help but keep staring at all the red flags of how weird and messed up the whole romance was.

Now even if we take it in a sportive spirit the female character is one of the most irritating characters and it became more and more impossible for me to tolerate this girl. usually, I overlook my troubles with the characters of a book but the female character of this book simply made it impossible. Actually, the first half was much better for the character trait but the second phase was so annoying that it became impossible for me to relate with this character or see any sense in what she says or does. In fact, there is a chapter where the MC calls or rather defines her as an “untrustworthy Cold bitch” and I was like “Halleluiah” because that was exactly what I had in mind.

I am not a fan of the book mainly because the female character annoyed the hell out of me to enjoy the book and also there was no romance per se. Just the physical aspect of a relationship which had been tagged with the wrong label. Clearly, the FC is as toxic as one can get and ironically MC is the one who I felt had a decent head on the shoulders.

So as you see I had massive issues with the characters and mostly I stepped past it to look at the bigger picture- the plot/the story but to be honest, there isn’t much to the plot except for the dynamics between the central characters and that is why the characters bothered me so much because they were what all the book is all about.

I had issues with the romance because I felt it went from zero to a hundred almost instantly. But I would say that in all of this, there were two things that I actually loved in the book. In fact, I felt they were the saving graces of the book.

a) The so-called “best friend” of our female character and her story track. It was absolutely fantastic and probably a much better story than our main one. We got it in very tiny morsels but it was absolutely fantastic. you will also see why I put the best friend in quotes. I thought it was such a good little life lesson wrapped in that particular story track.

b) Second has to be the sister of our Male lead and the new best friend of our female character. Seriously she is a saint for being who she is and the way she is such a silent and driving force. Of course, I could also see that her sister was going to get her own book with the sneaky breadcrumbs and clues, the author had left in the book. I guess that should be interesting as the glimpses in this book were exciting enough.

Conclusion

So in conclusion, I would say that my experience with the book was completely taken over by my issues with the central female character who was simply too unbearable. Added to that the romance felt more like a lustful arrangement that sort of tried to become a charming romance unsuccessfully. so yeah not that huge fan. But in general, for the genre, it is an ok book but not for me.
