Our Review of How to Destroy Your Husband by Jess Kitching

You have to admit that the title is so intriguing that you can’t help but pick it up. so why wouldn’t I do the same? The title hooked me and then its blurb and the setting convinced me to read this book. (well technically, listen as I had this on audio). To give you an overall vibe, I would say that yes it is a thriller with interesting plot layers but the book also comes with a lot of misses and hits. So with the book, there are things that I absolutely loved and then there are things that made me not love it as much. But still, I would say that it was a good book with fair enough intriguing points. Yes fair enough because the things that I didn’t like in the book are what is making it lose its magic to become an amazing thriller.

So with the title, you know that the character of the husband is questionable and it doesn’t take the book long to give you the why and then what the course of action would be. Now there is a tiny problem. After this explosive entry, the book goes into scheming mode. It’s all good except that at times we may not agree with the course of action and the time it is taking to come to a plan. There are lags in the pace and the scheming is at a slightly low pace. The keyword is slightly. It is not bad enough to make you stop. Just that you want to see the guy get his due because you have to admit that the author does a good job with his character assasination.

As I said the book has a good premise, and the story has a good plot development. The pace may at times show lag but it’s the conclusion of the final chapters that sort of disappointed me. I really feel that I was cheated of a good ending because of the way things finally fall into the end. It seemed rushed or incomplete. This is also the reason why I feel that the book will be totally different to its readers, depending upon what they want to see in the book. Personally, my expectation for the ending was something more dramatic than what it currently is. Because of the way the book keeps building everything, the end or whatever final events culminate definitely doesn’t justify. But this would be a purely individualistic taste and hence that can’t be exactly the deciding factor for this book.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would say that the book definitely has a very interesting premise. During the book, you do actually get immersed in the process of finding out the secrets and the true nature of this questionable “husband” character. You sort of start enjoying the whole process of discovering the extent of vile acts this character can show. That is also the problem that the book raises your expectations so high that the ending feels a bit disappointing at least I did. Maybe for others, it might be the perfect one. The author does drop a loophole for a sequel.
