About the Book- Beasts and Beauty

You think you know these stories, don’t you?

You are wrong.

You don’t know them at all.

Twelve tales, twelve dangerous tales of mystery, magic, and rebellious hearts. Each twists like a spindle to reveal truths full of warning and triumph, truths that capture hearts long kept tame and set them free, truths that explore life . . . and death.

A prince has a surprising awakening . . .

A beauty fights like a beast . . .

A boy refuses to become prey . . .

A path to happiness is lost. . . . then found again.

New York Times bestselling author Soman Chainani respins old stories into fresh fairy tales for a new era and creates a world like no other. These stories know you. They understand you. They reflect you. They are tales for our times. So read on, if you dare.

“Get too used to glorious sunsets and it is easy to blame the sun for stealing the clouds’ glory–but withhold the sun and there is nothing to see.”

Our Review of Beasts and Beauty

This is not a book. This is a work of art. Not only are the cover and internal illustrations beautiful but the stories are a beautiful twist to all the ones, our grandma told us. None of these stories is of Prince Charming and damsel in distress but what comes after the so-called “ Happily Ever After”. The author has twisted every fairytale into such volcanic proportions that it kind of takes you by surprise. Some of the stories were so powerful and brilliant that to me they welled more than the original ones I grew up on. I love and love the illustrations. The book just became something else with this amazing spread of illustrations between these stories. If I may suggest, go for the physical form of the book as it is nothing short of a collectable. I am so happy to have it in my collection.

The book by Soman Chainani is more like an alternative ending to all our favourite fairytales. The beauty is in the way how the author has managed to show that perhaps this might have been the actual story. I love the kind of effort and creativity that the author did to his storytelling. Taking something so ubiquitous and making it so unique.

The book is a collection of short stories so it should ideally take a day to finish or hours depending upon your reading speed. But yes it’s a fast, and smooth read. I want to say light but the fact is that even though the book is written in simple and softer language, things said and shown are not. They leave your brains at work with the kind of things it makes you take notice and think about. I am not sure whether this is fit for kids ( I don’t think so) but yes it is something that everyone should give a try. It is amazing and so pleasing to the eyes.

Conclusion

As I mentioned before, Beasts and Beauty: Dangerous Talesby Soman Chainani is a work of beauty. Its pure beauty both inside and outside makes it a perfect & pride member of one’s library. Plus revisiting these old fairy tales in a new light won’t hurt. It will give you something to ponder, something to enjoy and something to absolutely indulge in.
