About the Book – The Off Limits Rule by Sarah Adams
Breaking a rule has never been so enticing.
I have found rock bottom. It’s here, moving in with my older brother because I’m too broke to afford to live on my own. It’s okay though, because we’ve always been close and I think I’m going to have fun living with him again.
That is until I meet Cooper…
Turns out, my brother has very strong opinions on the idea of me dating his best friend and is dead set against it. According to him, Cooper is everything I should stay away from: flirtatious, adventurous, non-committal, and freaking hot. (I added that last part because I feel like you need the whole picture.) My brother is right—I should stay away from Cooper James and his pretty blue eyes. He’s the opposite of what I need right now.
Nah—who am I kidding? I’m going for it.
Our Review of The Off Limits Rule by Sarah Adams
In the mood for a cosy romance? then this here is a good pick. It has all the charms of a sweet, alluring and quick romance read. Ok, don’t, take out your knives on me for saying that the book has quite a predictable storyline. I mean it does..right? You hear the plot premise and you know how exactly it will go and end up. So why did I still find it adorable? because of the treatment of the plot. I actually fell in love with the humour of the book. At times I do agree that our FC could be a bit too chatty but then at the same time, there are times when certain dialogues and events crack you up in the book. I did have quite a laugh-out-loud moments which is strange considering that I am more of a smirker and eye-roller reader.
For all those, like me, who are repeating in their heads how this book is another meet cute, happy ending, candyfloss romance, I would like to say yes absolutely it is all that and much more…WoW… I think I am suddenly sounding like a marketer, pitching this book for sales incentive…so to compensate for that let me nitpick on the book.
The issue that I had was not technically with the book but with plot holes. 😛 I strongly believe a book shouldn’t be decided based on the characters or how they behave or plot angles. Those can’t be the same and according to our wishes ..right? Then what’s the point of picking a book if to read the same thing over and over. Sorry back to the topic. So yeah the issue I had is that “the problem” or rather “the brother” issue that the book tried to portray as the biggest obstacle in this romance seemed a bit overinflated. At times I felt that the book, I mean, the couple actually didn’t have anything major preventing them from being together. It is their own overthinking that is the issue. Or I felt the book didn’t emphasise why “the brother” would be such an issue because the romance was either way on its natural progression without any trouble. So yeah there it is. That was one thing that I could pick from the book to nitpick. Also, Cooper( our male lead) is too good to be true… no way it is real …. oh….. yup! yup! I forgot we are talking about a fictional character. But think about it! a guy named Cooper, is a millionaire, doesn’t do anything overboard, and is the most sorted and platonic guy? YEAH !! I don’t think so .. (sorry Coopers of the world)
So let me be clear in saying that I am not proposing that this is THE BOOK or THIS IS THE BEST. (sorry Sarah Adams..no offence) I am just saying that this book is something that is right up my alley and would be yours too if you love this genre and everything that comes with it.
Conclusion
Since clearly I sound disoriented in my review, In conclusion, I would say that this book is something that you could pick up after a heavy read to wind down or simply you just want to sit down with a cosy book that is adorable, cute and fluffy and nothing too complicated. Just a simple and cute romance that could help you cheer up, make you laugh and break out into “awwhhs” and”ooos” occasionally. For me, some of the one-liners and witty remarks were the best things about the book. So it is hardcore candyfloss romance. Quick, cute and absolutely cushiony (yeah I made that word up …so what ! I am not your English teacher)
