My Killer Vacation

About the Book – My Killer Vacation

It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation in sweet, sunny Cape Cod—just me and my beloved brother—but discovering a corpse in our rental house really throws a wrench into our tanning schedule. Now a rude, crude bounty hunter has arrived on the back of his motorcycle to catch the killer and refuses to believe I can be helpful, despite countless hours of true crime podcast listening. Not to mention a fulfilling teaching career of wrangling second graders.

A brash bounty hunter and an energetic elementary schoolteacher: the murder-solving team no one asked for, but thanks to these pesky attempts on my life, we’re stuck together, come hell or high tide.

I’m just here to do a job, not babysit an amateur sleuth. Although… it is becoming less and less of a hardship to have her around. Sure, she’s stubborn, distracting and can’t stay out of harm’s way. She’s also brave and beautiful and reminds me of the home I left behind three years ago. In other words, the painful hunger and protectiveness she is waking up in me is a threat to my peace of mind. Before I sink any deeper into this dangerous attraction, I need to solve this murder and get back on the road.

But will fate take her from me before I realize the road has been leading to her all along?

Our Review of My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey

I really tried hard with this book. But nope. I couldn’t. I think this is yet another book from the author that I wasn’t able to enjoy. When I read the plot of the book, I was totally sold. it sounded exactly the kind of book that I would like but only to pick it up to discover that this is the kind of book that I would definitely NOT like.

The major problem that I faced with the book is how it takes everything as a joke. With the kind of plot it had, rather than working on it, the book totally focused on something else- the romance track and even that didn’t come out right because to me they appeared more like sex-crazed teens than two characters well in their adulthood and right in the middle of a serious situation. with fiction, you have to cut some slack as not everything can sound and appear logical but still, this book makes it totally difficult to sit through and digest some of the stuff it throws at you.

Imagine a killer on loose and after you and all you think is hooking up? really? even when you are literally staying with your brother and with him all the time? It feels like the core plot was just foreplay for an otherwise erotica.

I waited for more than three-fourth of the book for something to happen. The plot came alive but it remained comatose till the end. I wished somebody had given it CPR but unfortunately, the people who needed to perform the CPR were doing it to each other. COME ON PEOPLE ! where are your priorities?

Unfortunately, the way the romance was handled, more or less sketched the male character as more of a stalker and somebody who you should report to the police on sight. While The female character rather than appearing to be a well-educated teacher, came as somebody who should at least finish high school.

Conclusion

Ok, I may be getting way too emotional and intense about the review but the fact is that the book definitely went overboard with the whole sexy romance. It was more sex and less romance and that too without a proper outline and context. The way the plot was dealt with was the major drawback for me.
