Our Review of Masala, Horror & Love by Dhiraj Singh
A huge thanks to the author for sharing a copy of the book with me and allowing me to get aquatinted with a unique, interesting and well-woven story. I loved the fact that the book had so many layers to it. Just like the name of the book, it has full-on masala making it spicy and engaging and the horrors of human behaviour, its consequences and the way we act in love and do stuff sometimes unfathomable are well portrayed in this book.
I think just as in his previous books, that I have read, the author takes a cruel pleasure in throwing so many parallel characters, lifelines and subplots. It looks like bits and parts in the beginning because you are shown snippets into the life of various characters. But eventually, it blows your mind to see how all these random characters and their tracks converge to tell a master story. So my advice to anybody is to put on your seat belts because chances are you would experience turbulence in this ride
Masala Horror and love has a pretty different narration technique. It literally gives you small doses in the beginning. It introduces one character with a bit about where they come from and move to the next character. So in the beginning it might be challenging to see who is who and what value they are bringing to the story. So just wait for all these characters to eventually come into their full forms and the book just becomes a blast from there.
Conclusion
IIn conclusion, I would say that the charm of the book is watching the tiny puzzle pieces join together to create a picture so wide and big that it literally shocks you and baffles you. I loved watching everything come together to build up such a massive storyline. The book definitely has so many layers to it and it is simply amazing to watch it work its magic. A good thriller that will keep you entertained, engaged and absolutely worth the time
