Our Review of Cross Her Heart Sarah Pinborough
Cross her heart and hope to die 😛 I had the book on audiobook and was able to sail through it for the fact that the book threw some wicked curve balls at each turn. I will admit that in the beginning, I didn’t think that it would be heading the way it eventually did in the book.
Fortunately, the narrator had her good game on and it made listening to this book an enjoyable and immersive experience. The book comes with a heavy list of trigger warnings and wouldn’t be pleasant all the time but the way the hard topics are covered is impressive. The book doesn’t itch on scabs making it bleed. It touches and shows you the vileness and moves ahead rather than trying to reap and squeeze the maximum out of your sensitivity.
Cross Her heart switches in between past and present. Maybe because I was on audio at the beginning it was sort of hard to track but eventually, as the story progressed we could see the time stamps. The book is at its best in the second half when the puzzle pieces start to sort of fall into place and you start getting the picture. Even so, I was not expecting certain twists and that sweetened the deal for me in the book.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would say that the book comes to its full potential by its second half and the book just gets better from there. It covers a lot of dark areas but in the end, provides an interesting read with lots of story development filled with thrills and twists.
