“It seems to me that good people, innocent people, and animals often suffer worst in this world, and bad people get away with bad things all the time.”

Our Review of The Stalker by Sarah Alderson

This is a book that shocked me on many levels. It played tricks on me. Honestly till almost 70% of the book, I was like I know where this book is going and it won’t be able to surprise me. Then almost towards the end of the book, everything turns 360 and the book kind of jostled me. I guess the very end of the book was what made this book worth its salt for me. so in a good way, the book has different phases and behaves differently.

So when I was listening to the book in the beginning I was getting the feeling that maybe the book might not have that much of a thriller or suspense element. All it had was a couple on honeymoon stranded on this weird island and having an eerie feeling. So let’s say about 60% of the book is all about this eerie feeling. It is clear from the name, that there is a stalker and that is what the book is playing on. To create the whole aura of something in the shadows, weird happenings, sights etc… it takes up a whole lot of the space in the book. So much so that you are like, Somebody should die by this time to make some sense.

So I am grabbing onto the book to reach the end where eventually there would be a confrontation with the stalker and ultimate reveal. Except the book got me. I am expecting the final reveal when suddenly the book changes and does a complete 360 and suddenly the plot is not going anywhere you were expecting it to go and it is on a whole new level of suspense and mystery. now, the stalker is the last thing on my mind because the book has brought out some major ammunition and my jaw is on the floor with how the book completely changed its nature at the last minute.

Then comes the revelations and let’s just my jaw never came back up. At the beginning of the book, there is no inclination that this book is going to turn out the way it just did. Not only did it take me by surprise but I loved the way it twisted everything around. I loved how the book got one on me as I never did actually see the ending or how it would all turn around like this. The only thing is that the book takes quite a bit of time to show its true colour. it is at the very end that you get this massive mystery.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would say that Stalker is one of those books that will only reward you if you are patient enough. The way the book begins is nothing like what it ends up as and that is what made this book so worth the wait. Not even the second part but the very later phase of the book is what will blow your mind. You will want to question and revisit everything in the book once you realize the bombshells it has thrown at you in the end. So my suggestion is to stick around for the end and you will see how the book will turn on you.
