About the Book – The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

Sometimes reality comes crashing down on you. Other times reality simply waits, patiently, for you to run out of the energy it takes to deny it.

Our Review of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Yes now I see, why this book is so popular. I must say that reading this book is like living through an entire lifetime. The book literally takes you through an entire life journey of a character that in herself is so layered and completely opposite to what you would expect. To say the book is powerful is putting it lightly. I had this book on audiobook and I still felt the book to be pretty heavy. A very good kind of heavy. I guess I enjoyed the book more because of the audio format because it quite literally was like listening to somebody telling their life story including all the dark and deepest secrets. I guess this must be how Oprah felt while interviewing controversial people on her show. Goosebumps never manages to settle.

If you haven’t heard about this book then…. Wait !! Seriously ? How could anyone have not heard or seen about this book? Perhaps time travelling from the past much have evaporated some of the gray matters 😒

Anyways my point is that there is a reason why the book has grabbed so many eyeballs. I can say that now having read the book. The thing that pulls one into the book is the very vivid emotions and real life like quality to it. You could visualise and imagine the things in the book happening in front of you. That magic comes through the quality of smooth narration and story telling technique which is at its best form in the book.

This book is not a light one. It grabs you with full force and keeps you locked in it. By the time you come out of the book, it feels like a decade has passed in the real world.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would like to say that believe all the hype around the book because it is totally worth it. This is one of the heaviest yet powerful book that you could ever grab on. The narration and the storytelling in the book makes you feel as if you are living the character’s life with her and going through all the struggles, pains and Joys along with her. Such immersive quality is a rare achievement for a book but this one definitely knocked it out of the park.
