The US-based Royal Couple. That’s how The Sun addresses the royal Couple, Harry and Meghan while reporting on their new venture. Apparently, the Royals are now turning producers as The Sun reports that the couple’s production company Archewell Productions has purchased the adaptation rights for Meet Me At The Lake by former journalist turned author Carley Fortune. According to The Sun, the Netflix rights for the book may have cost up to £ 3 million.
The news also comes amidst the reports of the royal couple having been dropped from their Spotify deal which was about a £ 16 million contract. This would be their first off-camera project rather than the Netflix documentary and other series they had so far with the streaming giant.
The Book, Meet Me at the Lake, which Archewell Productions has taken on for its adaptation had sold 37,000 copies in its first week of release which is massive considering how the Author’s first book Every Summer After had sold 21,000 copies in its first week of release. The Sun mentions that Carley Fortune’s Book, Meet Me at the Lake has almost a cult following.
Meet Me at the Lake is a romantic novel, that deals with mental health and a tragic accident and is set in Canada. It is a story of a couple who meets in their 30s. According to The Sun, the royals were gripped by the theme and various facets of the book which has similar patterns to their own lives and that is the reason why they chose this book for their first production project. The Sun even has a chart drawing out the similarities between the book and the Royal couple’s life.
Amidst all these what we found extremely interesting was the fact that the Author, Carley Fortune was the same Lifestyle journalist who once had written about Meghan’s unkempt hair. Fortune officially announced the adaptation project on her Instagram.
“I never thought I’d be making this announcement, but since I am, it feels fitting that I’m doing it from the cottage where it all began. I’m thrilled to confirm that I’m teaming up with Netflix and Archewell Production on the adaption of Meet Me at the Lake. Will and Fern’s love story is dear to my heart, and I can’t imagine a more perfect partnership. Writing this book was a tremendous personal challenge, and to see it recognized in this way is truly incredible.”
Sadly the actual production is stalled because of the writer’s strike but once the strike is over the Netflix adaptation will officially kick-off for the book.
So are you excited about The Royal Producers? or are you looking forward to reading the book first?
