Still Mine by Amy Stuart

About the Book- Still Mine

The Girl on the Train meets The Silent Wife in this taut psychological thriller.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU VANISH FROM YOUR LIFE AND LEAVE NO STORY BEHIND?

SOMEONE WILL MAKE ONE UP FOR YOU.

Clare is on the run.

From her past, from her ex, and from her own secrets. When she turns up alone in the remote mining town of Blackmore asking about Shayna Fowles, the local girl who disappeared, everyone wants to know who Clare really is and what she’s hiding. As it turns out, she’s hiding a lot, including what ties her to Shayna in the first place. But everyone in this place is hiding something from Jared, Shayna’s golden-haired ex-husband, to Charlie, the charming small-town drug pusher, to Derek, Shayna’s overly involved family doctor, to Louise and Wilfred, her distraught parents.

Did Shayna flee? Was she killed? Is it possible she’s still alive?

As Clare uncovers the mysteries around Shayna’s disappearance, she must confront her own demons, moving us deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of lies and making us question what it is she’s really running from. Twisting and electrifying, this is a get-under-your-skin thriller that will make you question what it means to lose yourself and find yourself in the most unlikely places.

It was dark, twisted and one that played with your mind. The pace maybe has risked it a bit but in all, I would say it was nice.

Our Review

Still Mine,  is how one Messed up mind is trying to salvage another messed up mind, while staying in a messed up place. So yeah! It’s all one big mess. For those who enjoy psychological thrillers, this will be a good pick. I do enjoy psychological thrillers…occasionally. The book is there but not there completely yet. Still Mine, like any typical psychological thrillers, builds up to the story slowly. It painfully picks at the psyche of the characters in the book. It is a slow but tricky process. You take a faster pace and your audience wouldn’t reach the mental point where you want them to. You take it slow and the same thing happens except you might as well have killed the readers even before they reach the mid of the book.

I think that is exactly what happened to me in the book. The pace was a bit slower than what I would have liked. That is the only issue I had with the book along with the tiny fact that the inner monologues and whining of the central characters ate up a lot of story space. You are dealing with a psychological thriller. So naturally, the book will have to deal with the inner demons and workings of the messed mind but the key point is balance. A bit more than the required portion would make it annoying and noisy.

I had a whole lot of issues with the character but then, I guess,  that is the whole point of the book ..right? Plus to each reader, the character would be different. It is a pure perspective thing. So let’s not get into that. The base story is pretty awesome There is a whole new landscape and I mean literal landscape to explore. There is a whole wide platter of people.

The book gets the vibe of a close-knit mining town to the T. It portrays the picture of each of these unique characters nicely. The only trouble was that our central character talked too much to herself and the pace was a bit slower than usual.

Conclusion

For fans of psychological thrillers, this book can be a good option as you can have a bunch of characters to explore and dive into. I loved the plot and the story it had, to tell. It was dark, twisted and one that played with your mind. The pace maybe has risked it a bit but in all, I would say it was nice.
