About the Book- The Serpent and the Wings of Night Carissa Broadbent
Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart.
The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.
But winning won’t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.
Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.
But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone – but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.
The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in a new series of heart-wrenching romance, dark magic, and bloodthirsty intrigue, perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Our Review of The Serpent and the Wings of Night Carissa Broadbent
This was amazing on so many levels that after a long time, I am having a good book hangover. This was one of those rare books that made me want to continue reading even if I could barely keep my eyes open. Also, I think it’s been ages since I had been to a vampire world or at least something that had such an epic level of vampire wars. There are so many things that made the book an interesting read for me.
The book is a competition saga. So you have this deadly competition like a survivor battle and you get to see the competition in its whole wickedness. There are strategies, plans, groups and in-between events that threaten to break the flow of the competition and alliances. So in short, all of these little pawn games keep it exciting and indulging. Apart from that the major thing with the book is that none of the characters are morally right or wrong. Everybody is so grey and deceptive in their approaches that you never know where to pledge your alliances. So that again keeps the fire burning in the book.
Overall I think it’s the pace of the story combined with its art of storytelling and the whole world setup of this series that keeps it tight to narrate an interesting battle of survival story. Well, I do have issues with the ending as on the one hand parts of it were unbelievable and shocking (in a good way) while some of it was …(huh…so that was predictable).. but to amass my feeling towards this book, I would say I loved it and had such fun reading it.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would say that if your drink of poison is blood… I mean if you love vampires then this book is going to be epic for you. Even if you are not a vampire fan, you will love this book for its Hunger Games style of Survival battle at its core and the parallel stories that make the plot thicken will add to the reasons why you will love it. I am so glad that even though we all knew the romance was to bloom, the book didn’t start cooking it till the very end and because of this, it stayed true to its main objective of the plot. So all the treatment, narration and basic plot did make it a good read for me.
