About the Book -So That Happened
I spent the night with a hot, grumpy stranger in an airport hotel.
No, not like that. Get your mind out of the gutter. It was just sleeping. And… maybe a little cuddling.
Long story short, I embarrassed the heck out of myself. But at least I never have to see him again.
Except the universe is clearly out to get me, because Monday morning, I arrive at my new job and who’s the first person I see?
Hot stranger himself: Liam Donovan.
AKA my new boss.
AKA Annie, you are so freaking screwed.
While the HR rulebook doesn’t explicitly say you can’t share a bed with your boss, I can read between the lines. And I need this job.
Which is why I have to pretend that night never happened. Luckily for me, sexy as Liam—excuse me, Mr. Donovan—is, he’s surly, rude and totally not my type.
Or so I keep telling myself.
Because I’m starting to think there’s a warm, gooey cinnamon roll with extra frosting lurking beneath that impressive, muscular form.
I promised I’d never choose between my career and love.
But when a scandal threatens to break, that promise could prove impossible to keep…
So That Happened is a laugh-out-loud funny, swoony, closed door romantic comedy. Expect some mild language and suggestive jokes coupled with tons of chemistry and tension, but no explicit scenes.
Our Review of So That Happened by Katie Bailey
I loved this book because it was a cosy and clean romantic comedy that had all the usual tropes that come with this genre. The book even with the usual enemies-to-lovers angle still kept itself a bit more interesting with its romance treatment. I loved how it went with the slow romance technique rather than falling over each other over the flip of the page. There was a charm to the romance.
I am not a fan of the male POV which is the only thing that I felt wasn’t exactly working in the favour of the book. I feel that getting the male voice right is a trick that has to be well crafted or else it could bring down the whole aura of the book. It can sound either arrogant, patronizing or completely oily and sleazy. The book though saved itself by using the male POV to bring in certain plot developments so in that fashion it was a safe play.
The book as I mentioned is your typical Rom-com but it doesn’t mean it is a bad thing. It just means that it makes it all the more worthwhile to pick up if this is your genre. I felt this was the perfect book for me as a palette cleanser between some really heavy and weird books. I will admit that before I picked up this book, I was kind of having a bad reading spell and this one helped me to actually get back into reading as this one was a simple and cosy read.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would say that if you are a fan of romantic comedies then this book is perfect for you. So That Happened is a quick, fun and cosy read that is perfect as a relaxer read and helps you to settle down with perhaps a glass of wine. The reason why I loved the book is because it was a clean and nice one and had a romance angle that was really cute and charming.
