Book Review : What if It’s Us by Becky Albertalli

Read Time:2 Minute, 52 Second

I am going to divide my reading experience of What if it’s us into three parts. One part, where it was so damn cute that I was flying in the candy land over the fluffy pink cloud. The second part where the same cloud was getting a bit slow and boring and the third part when the cloud disappeared from under me and I fell flat face landing on the ground and with my ass in the air. So in short the book was bittersweet… Holy Moly I just realised the book has a sequel? Really? but why?

What if it’s Us RWAT Synopsis

Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

What if it’s Us RWAT Take

Ok so speaking of the book. The book started so cutely in fact for almost more than half of the book, it is so adorable and so cute that you want to squeeze and hug it so hard to make it airless. (Gosh !! Why am I in an excessively aggressive and violent mood today? ). The way the plot sets out, is a perfect Disney romance and the cute and adorable banters and meets, simply make you melt. As I said before, I was floating on a fluffy cloud all that while.

Then as the story progressed, I saw that it wasn’t going anywhere particularly. Its fun watching a dog chasing its tail in the beginning but after a while, it is just plain boring and even sad. So the book just keeps going on and on and I couldn’t see where this was all headed except things were just getting continued…

Then all of a sudden its the epilogue and I was like what the …… So naturally, I was pissed and angry enough to rant bad on the review but then I remembered the first half and how while listening to this audiobook, I couldn’t stop smiling and looking like a perverted idiot to onlookers. But it was that cute.

Conclusion

So to sum up I would say the book is highly adorable like a cute puppy with pink bow type adorable. Its sweet, fun and exciting. There is all the innocence of young love and the nervousness of first dates and first spark. It is adorable and that is why the second half completely fails in comparison to the first. The expectations led on, according to me, are not fulfilled and feels like everything just got quickly wrapped up which it shouldn’t have. Will I look forward to the sequel? Nah !! I think I will survive without reading it.
