Book Review : The Last mile by David Baldacci

I can’t remember what I said in the review of Memory Man, which was the first book in the series but let me tell you I am now officially an Amos Decker Fan. Sorry Reacher, I know we had a good time and that we survived even when Tom Cruise played you but Amos Decker completely took me back to the time when I had started getting obsessed with Jack Reacher. Ok Admittedly Amos is not your ninja fighter and maybe unlike Reacher he may end up getting hurt in fights but the character is everything that was best about Reacher at one point.

The Last Mile Official Synopsis

Memories can be a real killer in the second Amos Decker novel from David Baldacci following The Last Mile.
Melvin Mars awaits his fate on Death Row. He was one of America’s most promising football stars until, aged twenty, he was arrested and convicted for the murder of his parents just as he was due to begin a very lucrative contract with the NFL.

When Amos Decker, newly appointed special agent with the FBI, hears the news that Melvin was saved in the final seconds before his execution because someone has confessed to the killings, he persuades his boss to allow him to carry out an investigation into the Mars murders.

There are facts about the case which don’t add up, and as the investigation deepens, Decker and his team uncover layer upon layer of lies and deception which are rooted at a time in American history which most would rather forget, but some seem keen to remember.

There is someone out there with a lot to hide, and a secret that everyone is looking for. A race against time ensues because, when revealed, that information threatens to tear apart the corridors of power at the very highest level.

The case proves to be life-changing for both Mars and Decker in ways that neither could ever have imagined.

The Last Mile RWAT Take

While I was busy building shrine to Amos Decker, the character of Melvin grew so much on me and I was literally fangirling all the moments when Decker and Melvin were together. They make such a formidable team. The pages were on fire when these two were on the action.

I am not sure whether Decker has its traces in Reacher or vice versa but I will take it. I just hope that the trail does not go out blazing just when I am getting all hyped up about the series. I loved the character and even more loved the fact that Decker is not whining anymore and is a no-nonsense agent who is sharp

He so reminds me of Reacher from Killing floor. Am I being the worst critic by comparing Decker with Reacher? But I can’t help it. A lot of Decker in this book reminded me of the best traits of Reacher. If you are a huge Reacher fan, you must try this series… Try this book because trust me I remembered nothing from the first book and yet I enjoyed this book without any glitches.

In conclusion, I would say that this book was mind-blowing. I have become a huge Decker fan after this book. This book is perfect for anybody who is a Reacher fan. Trust me if you have been missing our old Reacher, then this book is a good solution for you.
