I believe if you have read the six of crows then you would definitely be charmed by The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell as well. The book was amazingly put together in terms of story development.
The Last Magician official Synopsis
Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future.
In modern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.
Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order—and the Brink—before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.
But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.
The Last Magician RWAT Take
There are a lot of reasons as to why one can easily pick this book and instantly fall in love with it. First and foremost is definitely the plot. The twists and turns and the way story moves is not only exhilarating but addictive as well.
The pace of the book is so good that it never brings in a dull moment. Of course there is a peak a slight dip in between but even then it maintains the hook on the reader. The characters make the second solid reason as to why one should go for the book.
The book brings in a multitude of characters and each one excels and outshines one another. The art thereby proves in itself in the way that none of these characters overshadows or feel repetitive or forceful. Each of the character seems to have gone through a nice level of brainstorming before weaving them into the book.
One of the Other things that I liked was the romance angle. I loved how the author didn’t focus on making the book all about the romance but more about the actual story. The book doesn’t make everything about the relationship of the couple or the hide and seek romantic game and that in itself is beautiful and absolutely brilliant, proving that the book is for everybody.
The story is so unique and intriguing that it soaks you in and the language and the flow of the book adds to the magic. It is amazing and worth the fun. if you loved six of crows series then you will definitely love this as well
