Book Review: Soulmates by Holly Bourne

I am baffled at the concept and the treatment of the book because after finishing the book, i nearly tried to drown myself in a tub of ice water to make sense of what i just read

Soulmates by Holly Bourne – Official Synopsis

Every so often, two people are born who are the perfect matches for each other. Soulmates. But while the odds of this happening are about as likely as being struck by lightning, when these people do meet and fall in love…thunderstorms, lightning strikes and lashings of rain are only the beginning of their problems.

Enter Poppy, the 17-year-old cynic with a serious addiction to banana milk, and Noah, the heart-throb guitarist; residents of mediocre Middletown, sometime students, and…soulmates.

After a chance meeting at a local band night, Poppy and Noah find themselves swept up in a whirlwind romance unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before. But with a secret international agency preparing to separate them, a trail of destruction rumbling in their wake, (and a looming psychology coursework deadline), they are left with an impossible choice between the end of the world, or a life without love…

Soulmates by Holly Bourne – RWAT Take

First of all the theme itself was pretty fragile to embark on a full fledged story based on it.  Somehow the author did carry on with the theme safely till a certain distance. After that it all came crashing down

Once you open the book, you will notice that even though you see and understand what all is happening in the book, you are absolutely clueless as to where all this will lead. There are two stories that is running parallel and for me personally, while one story was making sense, other one didnt.

To be simple let’s just say that initially only half of it makes sense. Rest seems to be words running around the pages. It takes time for the other story to shape up and start making sense. By then the book is already starting to crack under its own weight

The trouble with the book is that it starts ferociously ambitious only to lose all that ferociousness towards the end. The ending or the second phase completely stops making sense in comparison to the first half of the book. It feels all mismatched. I felt the fate of the book would have completely changed if the second half was treated with a bit more cautiousness

Soulmates by Holly Bourne – Conclusion

There is a lot of thing going amiss for the book. Its starts out promising something else in the beginning and completely taking a different route towards the second half . It is completely falling under its own expectations and fate
