Book Review: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

My book lord and friend had warned me that the finale was going to be a tough one to bear with so much happening in the book that would just tear your heart. True to that after a certain point, the book was a hard bite to break through. It seemed that the whole universe was out for our beloved Katniss. It didn’t feel like like a fair world anymore. So many things happening that the book took a heavy toll on its readers. This definitely is far from where the book had started.

Mockingjay Official Synopsis

My name is Katniss Everdeen.
Why am I not dead?
I should be dead.

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss’s family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans–except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss’s willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels’ Mockingjay–no matter what the personal cost.

Mockingjay RWAT Take

As true to my friend’s advice, Mockingjay, which is also the finale of the series, came with some heavy baggage. The book is a roller coaster ride with so much happening that you won’t be able to catch a breath. This also makes it to be amazing and with so much that the series had gone through, i couldn’t imagine a better ending for the series than this one. So much events that eventually tie everything at the best possible fashion.

I think i may not be able to say much about the book since it is already a classic and i can’t possible come up with anything that hasn’t already been said before. After reading the book, i had to watch the movie. Both the movies actually. Since the finale took up two movies to finish telling as to what happened in the book.

The narration and the flow of the book is at its best and which is what makes the book so worthwhile. The plot and the characters are so gripping that you can’t get out of it without a heavy dose of book hangover. The series was a milestone in the dystopian and survival fiction and with a strong female character to lead the army, the book is completely a must read for any book addicts.

In conclusion, i have nothing much to say about the book that has been a cult in itself. A book that broke many stereotypes and even started a trend. Even today after years of the release of book, it is a milestone against which other books are judged and compared. The finale, Mockingjay, is high on intense and will make you run through a heavy roller coster ride and proving to be an amazing read
