Book Review: Hopeless by Colleen Hoover (Hopeless #1)

Well it is not completely hopeless. Even before i had read the book, i saw a lot of reviews around the book and most of them kind of pin pointed the stalkerish nature of the book and how it barged into creepy territory. Maybe that was the reason why i had been quite sceptical about reading it. I feared that the insta-love and stalker lover would ruin my experience with the book. Well now that i have read the book, i can, kind of tell you that the reviews weren’t completely wrong. Well yeah in the mood and the spirit of the book, you may not feel much but the fact is that , the plot can be creepy if you give it a second glance

Hopeless Official Synopsis

After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. Hopeless RWAT Take

Love contemporary romances? then this is apt for you. It has got all the usual ingredients. Hot bod boy and an attractive girl. Both having mysterious/ deep past issues. These two bumping into each other in mysterious situations. Almost at first sight falling head over heels. In just matter of two paragraphs climbing the proverbial ladder to reach juliet and setting off romance. Since it is Contemporary romance, add in element x ..i mean make out sessions, kisses, hugs, basically the whole package. Then as the chapter progress, make the male character a bit borderline psycho with overprotectiveness but efficiently covered in romantic sweetness. Progress more and start adding drama and troubles and then fights, getting back together and eventually happy ending… Voila … that’s 90% young adult romances described. Phew !!

So not ruining the fun anymore. Hopeless, yes, does follow all the traditional aspects of young adult/ contemporary romances. Add to the fact that is Colleen Hoover book and she is queen of this genre. The book as i told is filled with emotional and romantic ups and downs and makes for interesting read. Leave the logics and comparison to real life scenarios and read it as pure fiction magic and you are good to go. If you leave all those judgements and inhibitions out, then you will definitely love the book. But let the technicalities or the analysis start, and you will end up criticising and pondering over the things happening in the book. Which in my opinion is not a good idea.

The book is a quick delve into romance filled with lot of emotional and some heavy and intense plot developments. I think the best part for me was the second half. The book just reaches a completely different level in its final phase and that made all the difference for me. Not that i had anything bad to say about the first half, expect for the similarities with other books of the same genre

In conclusion, i would say that Hopeless by Colleen Hoover is a good pick if you are a fan of contemporary romance. It has got all the right ingredients. The only advice is to leave all the logics and reasonings outside the door and simply read and view the book and events for what it is. A fiction to escape your real life troubles.
