Book Review: Geekerella by Ashley Poston

If you are craving for a good old cinderella fairy tale then look no further as Geekerella by Ashley Poston is a beautiful and the cutest cinderella retellings i have read so far

Geekerella Official Synopsis

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad’s old costume, Elle’s determined to win – unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons – before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake – until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?

Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Geekerella RWAT Take

This is perhaps the only book where I had gone for all three formats. Initially I had picked up the audio format thinking it to be a light and the usual cindrella meeting her prince charming story. But after going through the initial chapters I couldn’t resist and grabbed the e copy because it was too good to be left heard in audio format. Funny enough when I started reading e copy I wanted to read it in actual book.that is the paper back. So in that way I have read this book in three phases and that’s how much I loved the book

Yes the book is a modern take of cindrella but once you start reading the book then you will realise that it is much more than a mere retelling of cindrella.

I think any retellings survive or score itself when they have an actual story to tell. Of course when you are retelling a classic story you need to keep the original story intact. It is here that the author shows their talent when. They bring in something new and exciting to the old book

Geekerella is an absolute fun book. A completely disney-ish but at the same time cutest to the core. It is one of those books that will instantly brighten your mood.

The book is light, sweet cute and a quick read to brighten and cheer up your day. It’s just like watching a Disney movie
