Amidst all the ups and downs and the relationship pulls exhibited in the story, the book essentially comes out as a story more crafted to portray indian families. The ties we all share with our parents and the face of all these family bonds. I would like to believe that the book is more of a study of family relationship and goals rather than an onlooker for romance. I did enjoy the subtle hints and ties on these aspects in the book. Because i promised is a quick and short read based on relationship and the concurrent struggles.
Because I Promised Official Synopsis
At their college farewell party, Varnika publicly rejects Sushant’s candid proposal in the most disrespectful way imaginable, leaving everyone – including her gang of cousins – dismayed. She feels that her reasons are valid, for doing this to her best friend. What exactly are her reasons for making this upsetting choice? Did her mother’s move to Mumbai during Varnika’s formative years have a bearing on her? Or is it more than that? What is she planning to do at the NGO for eunuchs? Will she succeed in her chosen career? Would she be able to overcome her inhibitions before it is too late? This is Varnika’s journey as she overcomes her personal reservations and professional challenges, all the while contemplating her promise to lock her heart away.
Because I Promised RWAT Take
Well, as rude as it may sound, the book for me embark on the usual template worked diligently by the indian authors. Everything in the plot line seemed to take the usual skeleton of ubiquitous indian romance novel. A relationship that germinated in the college but never seeing the light of the day until they are way into adult and settled into their lives still reeling in the shadows of a lost relationship when until events created by the mighty hand of author brings them together and from thereon the romance gets a second chance. It is nothing to say against the book or the author but a general perception of mine on the existing trend of romance novel which can tend to become repetitive having following this plot line too closely
The book fluctuates between the present and past scenario of the characters and inspite of my cribbing that it follows the usual paths of the indian romance scripts, i did like how a different depth was given to the familial ties and the relationship nature in the book. It clearly had been given some time and strength because among all other aspects of the book, this feature stood out for me the most. Well there is the case of the attack of bollywood songs disguised as poetic intrusion but other than that the language keeps the flow of the book smooth and easily absorbing.
The family relationship aspect has been nicely drafted and makes something to look forward to in the book. The language and the story flow keeps it easily immersible and making it a short and quick read. As i said the only issue i had with the book is that it kind of followed the same path as the rest of the indian romance novels but except that it was a good and interesting pick
